Tomato - 2 nos
Onion - 1 big
Garlic - 2pods
Turmeric Pwdr-1tsp
Sambhar pwdr-1tbsp
Coriander pwdr-1tsp
Garam masala pwdr-1tsp
Tamarind paste-1tsp (we add less tamarind juice compared to our regular sambhar)
For seasoning
Red chilli
Mustard
Curry leaves
Method
1)Pressure cook the dhal together
2)In a pan heat lil oil and saute half of the chopped onions and garlic until they are translucent. Add the tomatoes and half the salt and close the lid and cook well.. until they are mashed well.
3)Let it cool and grind it in the mixie into a thick paste.
4)Now in the same pan add lil oil and prepare the seaoning with red chilli curry leaves and mustard and then add the remaining half of the chopped onions and saute until translucent.
5)Now add the tamarind paste and all the powders(chilli,sambhar, coriander, turmeric and garam masala) and let it boil for sometime. adjust the salt according to spices
then add the ground paste and let it boil for somemore time...
6)Finally add the mashed dhal and boil it well.
7)Garnish with chopped coriander leaves
